How does a vocabulary exercise work?

Every single word you at least once meet in your vocabulary exercise acquires a certain status, according to your level of possessing it in your memory. This status is expressed by color and is recalculated (according to a simple principle) after every vocabulary exercise (it is however necessary to finish the exercise for saving it). There are in total four categories: words that you know perfectly, well, worse and badly. If you report knowing the word well during the exercise, the word will ascend one level. Otherwise, it will go directly to the category badly.

It is a variation of a so-called Leitner system. Leitner used this system with paper cards in the 70s. It is also called flashcards.

What is the benefit of registration and why is it necessary?

Registration allows us to connect the results of vocabulary learning exercise with a particular user, it is therefore necessary for fully utilizing the possibilities of vocabosaurus. It is possible to exercise vocabulary without a registration, but the results won't be saved anywhere, which would be a pity, because exactly these results allows you to concentrate on vocabulary that you are worse at, which implies more effective learning.

Registration further allows you to add your own words and categories for both your benefit and the benefit of other users.

Vocabulary organization

Vocabulary is firstly classified by languages. They are then divided into categories, so-called sets. You can see these sets in the green area in the upper part of the webpage, for example spanish vocabulary concerning travelling. Every set has just one creator and owner in one person (it is not possible to edit the sets and vocabulary of other users). According to who the creator is, the vocabulary is classified into three categories (as you can see in the menu below the flags in the upper left part of the tab vocabulary): official vocabulary, which has been entered by Vocabosaurus, then user-submitted vocabulary, which contatins vocabulary entered either by you or other users, and finally, if you log in, you will see the link to your vocabulary.

Activities

Activities regarding vocabulary, so far being offered by Vocabosaurus, are basically two: already mentioned vocabulary learning exercise and so-called speed game, where you always get a word to be translated and nine possibilities, out of which you have to choose very quickly the correct one, because the sooner you'll do it, the more points you will receive. The results of this activity do not count into the vocabulary learning exercise system. However, the system keeps track of the best score you achieve in every set.

Apart from that, you can also search french verbs conjugation and also spanish verbs conjugation. You can find both of them on the conjugation tab. You can either enter the verbs in their infinitive forms (the system will then list all the verb forms), or you can enter any form of any verb and vocabosaurus will find out which verb it is and will offer a link to the verb in question.
